Horseback across the United States (Tybee Island, GA to Imperial Beach, CA)
1995 January to May
The journal for this trip is not online, but we hope one day it will be.
This ocean to ocean horseback/covered wagon trailride left Tybee Island, GA January 2, 1995 headed for Imperial Beach, CA (near San Diego) where we finished May 17, 1995. Chuck and I had two horses, a Tennessee Walker named “Dustdee” and an Arabian/Morgan named “Kid”. Dustdee was as solid as a rock, easy to ride and to work with. Kid was aptly named and had tremendous endurance. He was really unhappy when he was given a rest day. We also had a three horse slant load Featherlite Trailer with living quarters pulled by a Ford dually. Chuck rode 100% of the way from ocean to ocean and I (Betty) rode about 20% and did a lot of logistical support. It was a wonderful adventure. We started out with a large group of riders (about 58), wagons, trailers and ended with only 8 riders, 1 wagon and numerous horse trailers.
